CBD can come from cannabis (marijuana) and industrially-grown hemp.* The cannabis plant produces around over 100 different chemical compounds called cannabinoids.
The well-known and most abundant, is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which causes the psychoactive intoxication that some people like. Present day marijuana flowers have about 10% to 35% THC, while hemp contains only about 0.3%, often way less.
Coming in second in most abundant chemical in the cannabis family is …… you guessed it, CBD! CBD is non-psychoactive and does not have a “high” that people experience with THC. Cannabinoids are naturally produced by our body and are intertwined with many of our bodily functions such as appetite, pain sensation, mood, and sleep. There is lots of ongoing research happening today regarding CBD and how it may effect existing cannabinoids found in our bodies.
